This is beginner friendly quick and easy crochet tote bag pattern. Its perfect as a summer bag. Beside the yarn that I used to crochet this pattern, you can use different type and different size of cotton yarn. Keep in mind that size of the bag will depends on the yarn and hook size.
Bag size - 34cm[W] 32cm[H]
Handle length - 60cm Width 2.5cm
We are going to begin our work with the bottom part of the bag and once we done bottom part, gonna continue with the pattern part.
You will need...
- Yarn [light to medium weight] 2 different colors
- Maroon color - 250yd [approx]
- Beige color - 180yd [approx]
- 4mm [7/0] crochet hook
- Darning needle
- Few stitch markers
- Scissors
ch - chain stitch
slst - slip stitch
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
blo - back loop only
st - stitch
st marker - stitch marker
sp - space
ch sp - chain space
sk - skip
sts - stitches
So let's start with the bottom part...
R1 - Ch 57, work 1sc in to the 2nd chain from the hook. [place a st marker on the 1st st] continue work 1sc in to each st until you get total of 55 sc. [now you will left with one last ch st]
In to the remaining ch work 4sc [place st markers on the 1st and 4th sc]
Now we are continue working sc on the other side of our work. Work 1sc in to each space until you have 54 sc [excluding the 4 sc on our last ch st]
Then work 1 sc in to the same space that you did your very first sc and mark that st with st marker. Work 2 more sc in to the same sp.
Slst in to the 1st sc. [116sc]
R2 - Ch 1, work 2sc in to the same sp, then work 1sc in to each st until you reach your next st marker.
Then work 2 sc in to the st marker stitch. 1sc in the next st, 1sc in the next st and 2sc in to the stitch marker st.
Continue work 1sc in to each stitch until you reach next st marker. Work 2 sc in the st marker st, 1sc in the next st, 1sc in the next st. Join with slst in to the 1st st. [120sc]
R3 - Ch2[does not count as a stitch] 1dc in to the same st, 1dc in to every st around. Join with slst in to the 3rd ch. [120dc]
Pattern part.
R1 - Ch3, 1dc in to the next st, ch2, sk2, 1dc in to each for the next 3sts, ch2, sk2, 1dc in to each for next 3sts... at the end ch2, sk2, 1dc in the next st, slst in to 3rd ch.
R2 - [Slst in the next dc, slst in to the ch 2 sp] Ch3 [count as a dc] 4dc in the same ch2 sp, 1sc in to the 2nd dc of 3dc [center st] 5dc in the next ch2 sp, 1sc in to the 2nd dc... slst in to the 3rd ch.

R4 - Repeat R2
R5 - Repeat R3
We are going to continue repeat until we get total of 20 rows with maroon color. [count only pattern rows]
Then join the beige color yarn and continue repeat the same pattern for 8 more rows with beige color.
R29 - Work one slst in to every st around and cut the yarn, weave the yarn ends.
So we are done working on the bag and let's move on to the straps/handles.
Handles.
Working with the beige yarn...Work x2. Length of the handles is 60cm each.
R1 - Ch121, 1sc in to the 2nd ch blo, 1sc in to each ch st blo across.
R2 - Ch3 turn, 1dc in the same st [very 1st st] , 1dc in the next st, ch1, sk1, 1dc, ch1, sk1, 1dc...at the end ch1, sk1, 1dc in to each for the last 3sts.
R3 - Ch1 turn, 1sc in the very 1st st, 1sc in to every st across including ch sts. Cut the yarn and weave the ends.
We are done with the handles so you can attach them on to the bag. Find the best position and weave them on to the bag by using darning needle.
